Washington Street Elementary had another great dads and kids night last month to kick off the WatchDOGS program. This national program encourages more dads, and father figures, to get involved in their child's school.
WatchDOGS not only get to volunteer in their child's classroom, but they impact many of the students through volunteering in different ways throughout the day. They become a male role model for many students; there aren't many male staff members at elementary schools. WatchDOGS are asked to volunteer at least one day through the year. They start the day welcoming kids, volunteer with small groups in the classroom, join the kids at lunch and recess, do more in-class volunteering and say "goodbye" at the end of the day. They also walk the campus.
The WatchDOGS kickoff night included a pizza dinner, a craft in the art room and fun in the gym as well as a sign up table. You can sign up online here.
