ALL Kids Now Eat FREE!

Free Meal Service Extended through December 31st.

Otsego Public Schools is excited to share that all school meals will now be free to all students through December 31, 2020 thanks to an announcement this week! The Michigan Department of Education shared that the USDA extended the federal waiver allowing school districts to feed children ages 18 and under at no cost to families. Both breakfast and lunch will now be available for all students and younger siblings for all seven days of the week for FREE!

Students eating meals at school will no longer be charged and credits will be given to all student accounts for any meals already purchased for this school year. However, any entree-only meals or a la carte items must be purchased at their regular prices. Only full meals are free due to dietary guidelines. In addition, only full meals purchased can be reimbursed due to dietary guidelines.

Families who wish to receive these meals must fill out a pre-order form, one per child. This is available for students in Blue/Gold groups, enrolled in the VAAC, Learn ‘n Grow students and also those who are not yet of school-age. Forms will be available starting Tuesday, September 8th and must be completed by the Friday of each week. Please fill out a form for each child. Meals will be prepared for pick-up on Wednesdays starting the week of September 14th. We will have three distribution sites for you to choose from.

Hybrid and preschool students will receive five breakfasts and five lunches; those enrolled in VAAC, and non school-age children will receive seven of each to cover meals for the entire week.

Please note: Because pre-orders already started for the week of September 7th, we will stay with our current system for that week. Pre-orders must be completed by Friday, at 4pm on Friday, September 4th. Current online forms will then be replaced with our new ordering system starting on Tuesday,  September 8th.

We do not anticipate meals to be free for the entire school year, so we need families to complete and submit a Free & Reduced Price Meal application as soon as possible. All eligibility for Free or Reduced meals will take effect when this free service ends. In addition, our free & reduced applications impact other areas of funding for the district. We encourage ALL families to complete this. Please fill out the form if you have not done so already. You can apply at for a hard copy, you can print the Free & Reduced Price Meal Application.
